Our Story

From small workshops in northern Thailand.

Every piece in our shop began with a love story that crossed the world. As Ethan and Pranisa fell in love with Northern Thailand (and each other!), they also fell in love with the hand-carved and hand-painted pieces made there— all of them by small shop owners in villages where their families have shaped wood and clay for generations. They met the craftspeople and marveled at the quality of their finished work and knew they wanted to bring that artistry into homes back in New England while shining a light on the hard work behind every shop. What you see displayed was brought home with the intention to honor the maker, the craft, and the journey that makes it all possible.

Meet Howard Hoot

The owl is our mark.

Howard Hoot, the large hand-carved wooden owl, our signature mascot

Our signature is the owl, a quiet symbol of wisdom and watchfulness across northern Thai folk craft. You'll find them perched throughout the collection, no two ever quite alike.

This is Howard Hoot, a large hand-carved wooden owl, lovingly named by the family. He traveled 8,176 miles from Thailand to the States, and the family watched every mile of his journey. Once he arrived, Handcrafted by Artisans was born. Today, Howard is the signature mascot of our shop and a symbol of the resilience and love that connects Massachusetts and Thailand.

  • Hand-carved over the span of months by a master craftsman
  • Hand-finished with natural oils
  • No two carvings are ever the same
